PROMOTED A 6000 YEAR OLD FLUTE
On 12 April 2007 in the Multimedia Center Mala Stanica, the Cultural Heritage Protection Office had organized a promotion of the first and oldest musical instrument discovered in Macedonia , for the time being, named Spherical flute from Macedonia .
The flute was discovered in 1989 at the archaeological site “Mramorot”, near the village Chashka, Veles, a Neolithic settlement dating between 5000-4000 BC. The Spherical flute is made out of red cleaned clay that in the firing process obtained dark brown color. Its diameter is 4,7cm and it has three small perforations- a spout and two openings for regulation of the tones.
The Spherical flute was exhibited together with several other clay instruments (ocarinas) that are dated more recently. At the promotion was presented an expert study about the Spherical flute by Trajanka Jovchevska, archaeologists, custodian-advisor from the National Museum in Veles, discoverer of the instrument and researcher of the settlement at Chashka. The poet Eftim Kletnikov read the song “The Ocarina of a Man”, inspired by his first encounter with the magical voice of the Spherical flute. The musical promotion was performed by our virtuoso of folk instruments Dragan Dautovski with several minutes of playing on the flute for which he prepared special music.
