ACTIVTIES OF THE INSPECTION SERVICE

Upon a received written information, the Inspection service at the Cultural Heritage Protection Office had performed an insight for an inflicted damage occurred during carrying out of construction works for the reconstruction of a part of the premises of the monastery hospice in the Zabel monastery (church of the Holy Virgin). It was ascertained that there was inflicted damage on the newly discovered necropolis of “cyst” type, and that the construction works were carried out without a conservation approval from the CHPO. Because of that, the inspection had assessed that it is necessary to stop the unauthorized performance of the construction works on the monastic complex (church of the Holy Virgin), and all the construction works that are to be carried out in the future, in the interior of the object, to be made exclusively with the presence of an expert, archaeologist.
