TEMPORARY PROTECTION

In the course of December 2006 the legal procedure for adopting a decision for temporary protection of the cultural good - Merata in the village Banica, Strumica region, had been finished.

This is the first act of this kind, which according to the Law on Protection of Cultural Heritage (Article 39) was adopted by the Cultural Heritage Protection Office, on the basis of an analysis and proposal for putting under temporary protection, prepared by the NI Institute for protection of cultural monuments and Museum – Strumica. According to the results of the past research of the professional services from the Institute in Strumica, so far had been discovered four, i.e. five rooms for Late Antique bath, and special attention was raised by the cross-shaped base of the bath itself and the preserved parts from the hypo-caustic system. In addition, there are grounded presumptions that the bath might have been a part of a complex of a Villa Rustica. The archaeological research that should be finalized in two years, upon the entrance into force of the decision, will have to establish all the necessary elements for establishing the characteristics of cultural heritage of certain category of meaning.
