SECOND REGIONAL CONFERENCE IN INTEGRATIVE PROTECTION
“MUTLI-DISCIPLINARY APPROACH IN INTEGRATIVE PROTECTION”,
BANJA LUKA, REPUBLIC OF SERBIA– BOSNIA HERZEGOVINA

On the 29th and 30th of October 2007, the city of Banja Luka in Republic of Serbia (Bosnia Herzegovina), was the host of the Second regional conference in integrative protection titled as Multi-disciplinary approach in integrative protection, organised by the Republic Institute for the Protection of Cultural-Historical and Natural Heritage, Banja Luka and the European Centre for Peace and Development (ECPD) of the United Nations University for Peace, Belgrade.

The conference was dedicated to expanding theoretical and practical knowledge in the field of integrative protection which, as a multi-disciplinary approach to the treatment of cultural heritage, imposes a number of problems, and their solution depends on many actors that participated in the spatial management. A particular focus was placed on the integration of cultural policies, strategies and management for protection of cultural and natural heritage within the framework of regional planning and legislation for integrative protection and its practical implementation.

Many experts participated at the conference, including those from Serbia, Bulgaria, Slovenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Monte Negro and Italy. Mrs. Snezana Gerasimova-Mateska was the representative from the Republic of Macedonia, an advisor for integrative protection within the Office for protection of cultural heritage who, aside from the focus on theoretical aspects of integrative protection of cultural heritage, in her presentation included Macedonia's experience in the integration of immovable cultural heritage in the process of spatial and urban planning.
